So over the last couple of days I've been poking around the Sam Brown drawings from 2000. His fanbase must have included an awful lot of computer geeks then. I'm not finished looking through them, but I've found three already that take an insider's view to fully appreciate.
"It's not a bug - it's a feature."
I write computer programs all day
The backreference \n, where n is a single digit, matches the substring previously matched by the nth parenthesized subexpression of the regular expression.
I thought the week after finals would be really slack. But I was wrong.
In preparation for my trip to Alabama, I've had a lot of errands and appointments to run...in both Yankton (my hometown) and Vermillion.
On top of this I'm trying to get 20 hours in at work and keep house with the boy and spend time with my friends so I don't regret wasting this time I still have with them before I leave.
It just made me think of this piece by Sam Brown over at explodingdog.com.
In a world where 1000 Red Robots rule, green is synonymous with evil, and "monkey" usually turns into "monster," the adorable dogs bring an "aw how cute" sort of feeling to balance the darkness. I don't think any of them have exploded yet, despite the site being www.explodingdog.com.
Sam Brown is my artistic hero, and it shows. Not only is his artwork the basis of my new blog's template, but my own limited creativity follows his lead of simple lines and bold colors.
Today's choice is "I don't need wings to fly" -- one of the more inspirational among his usually morbid (or at least darkly humorous) pieces.
Over the course of my time blogging here, a whole category shall be devoted to the days when I feel like I need Sam Brown to express a feeling for me. Which is often.
Brown's work is posted at explodingdog.com for public perusal. Each masterpiece is put together in Photoshop on a tablet pc of some sort, and each one is based on a title sent in by a visitor to his Web site. A fan can lose several days just browsing his past work. I know I have.
