Great Attendance at ACM Meetings
Today was the second meeting of the Association for Computing Machinery.
Our first meeting (Sept 12) went extremely well. Forty-six students and faculty (great turnout!) enjoyed a pizza picnic in front of Old Main, helping us to kick off the 2007-2008 year. It was nice to see that both PhD students and grad students took time from their busy schedules. Chairperson Abby Hurlburt and co-chair Chad Clites spent some time discussing plans for the upcoming year, and Doug Goodman recruited for the Collegiate ACM programming contest.
Our second meeting (today at 5pm) had refreshments provided by Daktronics, who will have representatives in the department tomorrow afternoon to talk with any students interested in internships or job opportunities with the company.Seventeen students attended today's organizational meeting, getting together the members and potential members to organize our projects and get ready to get some experience working on them. Our current projects include a small robot and several Web site projects. We are also involved in community outreach and would like to get some students who are willing to go to area schools to talk to young students and work with them on some hands-on projects or experiments.
Thank you to everyone who attended either or both of the meetings. We appreciate your support!
If you would like to get involved, and missed the meeting, or would like to add yourself to another committee, please email acm-AT-usd-DOT-edu and let us know.
