Large turnout at ACM LAN makes for great gameplay
The first ACM LAN party has been deemed a great success by the ACM executive board. An excellent turnout of gamers, first time attendees and veterans alike, made for exciting matches of Tribes Vengance and Risk II. Many new faces were at the LAN this year, in past years the primary attendees have been mostly the ACM officers with few others showing up. This year, the tables in the Williamson room were actually starting to get full.
Recently, the trend in ACM LAN attendees has been leaning towards simply bringing a laptop, the games played at the ACM LANs work just fine on most laptops. ACM provides monitors to those who do not want to haul their monitor with them if they bring a tower PC. As always, network cables, power strips, and the switch are provided by ACM through the Computer Science department. ACM has also set up a file server so attendees can quickly and easily download the games that will be played. The ACM officers have a standard set of free and demo games that are played. Free and demo games were chosen for use by the ACM officers in order to keep the LAN activities legal. Suggestions for new games to play at the LANs are always appreciated.
The next ACM LAN will be on Saturday, October 25th at 4:00pm in the Williamson room of the Arts and Sciences building.
