Curriculum ?
Attention Beacom Board of Governors I would appreciate feedback on some curriculum changes we are contemplating here at Beacom. At our annual meeting we did not get to discuss these items because we were having too much fun hearing presentations from (1) Students and faculty regarding the projects our new fee (we now call it the Beacom Opportunity Fund)will be funding starting this academic year, and (2) The Hyperion Energy representative most involved in acquiring land for a 10 billion dollar refinery/energy center at Junction City, SD. You may recall Juncion City is at the intersection of I-29 and SD Highway 50. Since we did not get a chance to discuss some important topics at the meeting,I would like to have a "blog talk" about some curriculum changes we are contemplating at the Beacom. Please click on this link to view a power point presentation titled "Curriculum Advice" which lays out 4 changes we are considering for our students at the Beacom. 1. Should we require students to buy and bring to class a specificly configured laptop? 2. Should we require students to take 2 semesters of foreign language? Not sure Spanish is foreign anymore. 3. Should we impose two new graduation requirements? 4. Should we emphasize analytics even more than we do? If we create a specialization at the MBA level in analytics what should we call it? Should we focus an analytics specialization on credit card and healthcare industries since they are the largest employers in both Sioux Falls and Sioux City? The Power Point presentations give you some pros and cons for your consideration. Please let me hear from you. Use the comments tab below to give me your views and share your views with other members of the Board of Governors. Thanks, Mike
