Henna

Hair styles in the United Kingdom are all about making a statement and popping out.  For some that means a faux-hawk. Others, bright blues and pinks.  But others prefer a more natural look.  With the immigrant population on the rise, natural dyes, long used by cultures in the Middle East and India are finding their way into mainstream use.  Henna is the most popular.

Henna has been used culturally in India and Arab nations for centuries, mainly for women during ceremonies.  Decorative designs would be painted onto any skin that would be exposed during the ceremony, typically the hands, feet, and parts of the face.   Elaborate designs of red, orange, brown, and black developed for each culture.

It is also used as a hair dye.  Lush, company specializing in all-natural cosmetics - that feel and smell just like the title, lush - makes a henna hair dye.  When I saw it in the store, I couldn't resist.  So, we died my hair henna maroon.

This is the mixture.  Yeah, it looks like poop.  But it smells lovely!

Melissa is getting my head ready.

Such a professional touch, she has.

This was the finished result.  From dull, murky, dirty-blonde to vibrant auburn!

Although, this is probably the look my dad made on seeing my new hair.

Looks fantastic!!

And Dad didn't have that face. He likes it, too.

Yeah, the color looks good on you. But did the poop looking stuff really smell lovely?

In regards to Aunt Karen's comment, I think it is to test poster competency. The USD blogs seems to suffer from some lack of it.

I like your new hair color, Jill! Fun. You should know that henna was the rage when I was a girl (MANY years ago)--my mom, a hairdresser, put henna in my hair back then--I think, the 70s.
