Llantwit and Ogmore - Down by the Sea

This past Sunday, a friend of our, Ben, invited us to his home in Llantwit for a home cooked Sunday dinner.  Ben attended the University of South Dakota on exchange last year, so he knew what it was like to be away from home for this long.

While his mother finished cooking dinner, Ben took us to the nearby beach.   Ogmore beach is right on the cliffs on the sea that separates the English and Welsh shores.  There were some lovely views and ruins to explore.  Here are some pictures.

The cliffs.

The sea.  You can actually see the English coast if you look closely.

 Look at that glorious coastline!

It is also a favourite spot for lovers.

Part of the old ruins.  It was also the entrance to the 'secret garden', or so me and Melissa called it.

This is inside the gardens.  This was the manicured part of it - there was a part that was basically left to grow wild.  This tree is actually flat. The the limbs on either side are at a 180 degree angle to each other.

After this little tour, and of the local countryside, we went back to Ben's house.  His mother had prepared roast lamb with mint jelly, roasted potatoes and parsnips, carrots, peas, and broccoli.  And for dessert - fresh strawberries covered in chocolate and cream.  It was delicious!  His grandparents were also there, and they love all things American.  so we had a wonderful conversation about both America and Wales.  Overall, a wonderful way to pass a Sunday.

Comments:

Wow! It sure looks nice out there.

Those photos are breathtaking! I also like how you now use the British spelling of words such as "favourite".
