Rome - The Coliseum, the Forum, and the Circus Maximus

Our first full day in Rome and the first thing we go to see is the Coliseum.  We hopped on the metro and a few minutes later, we were there!  It's amazing.  You walk up and out of the metro station and there it is, bigger than life.

The inside doesn't disappoint, either.

Right next to the Coliseum is the Forum, where the Senate of Rome met.  It's mostly ruins now, but as a student of Latin, it was amazing to see.

After an hour or so of exploring the ruins, we grabbed some lunch and headed to the Circus Maximus.  Not much remains, unfortunately.  A couple of stones here and there.  The track is nothing more than a dirt and gravel affair that the locals use to jog on.  Rather sad, really.

So concluded our ancient Rome sight-seeing day.  After this day, I felt as if I could die happy.  But there were still more days to come!
