Welcome Back!
Welcome back to another year at the great University of South Dakota!
We College Republicans- the BEST party on campus- are planning many great events for the fall semester. Watch this blog for details.
We're heading into the general election, and we've got lots of opportunities to put Republicans in local, state, and national office.
First is the State Senate race. Our current State Senator's job has been laughable. Aside from echoing extreme environmentalism from out of state- and in the process, almost denying Hyperion access to Union County- Ben Nesselhuf has done little for our corner of South Dakota.
Nesselhuf's Republican challenger, Jerad HIgman, is a local businessman and entrepreneur who has millions of dollars invested in Vermillion and employs over 60 people- a lot for a small town! Jerad plans to work for southeast South Dakota in ways Nesselhuf never did.

Let the intellectual battles of FALL '08 begin!

My concern is that Jared Higman lack any political experience, while BJ both studied political science and has served the State Legislature for many years. I do not doubt the investment Jared Higman has committed to the Vermillion area, but why does he now want to enter politics? He says he is committed to furthering economic development and education, but why does he need to go to the state level to do so. He is an active member of the Vermillion Chamber of Commerce, which is the entity most responsible to Vermillion's Development, what does he want to acheive as a State Senator? And for education... why not run for the school board, the entity that is directly related to the education his daughters will receive here in Vermillion. I just don't get his motive... he has family and business here in Vermillion, his education background has nothing to do with politics, his past activities don't seem to stress politics either?
Just makes me wonder...
