Welcome Migrators!
The D2L Migration Notifications were sent out yesterday and for many of you viewing the blog, this is your first time here so welcome! I just wanted to share some updates as it has been a couple of weeks since my last posting:
- Last week I had a training session with three of our pilot faculty, along with a few other guests, and it seemed to go well. The session was really the genesis of what will become the CTL's "D2L for WebCT Users" training, which will highlight the similarities and differences between D2L and WebCT. We'll begin to offer these session in January, once the 2008SP term begins.
- On Monday (12/3), we submitted our USD D2L Implementation Plan to the the task force project managers. I will not go into the specifics here as the details are spelled out therein, but in general, the document outlines our campus timeline for migrating to D2L including milestones, training, migration specifics, etc.
- On Tuesday (12/4) we had Steering Committee meeting with the project managers. We discussed the course template, as well as some concerns we had, both design and functional. Some were addressed, others need further discussion so I'll update everyone on the specifics once we've settled on plan of action.
- Yesterday (12/5) Dean Becvar and I met with the USD Faculty Senate to discuss the D2L Implementation, among other topics. The presentation seemed to be well-received, and I did not sense any wide-scale panic, so I think it went well :-).
- Our primary focus for the next few weeks will be getting the pilots ready for the go-live date of January 14th, 2008. The courses have been created, the content has been migrated, the pilot faculty have been through the first round of training, so we are rolling right along.
And that's all folks. I'll post an update over finals week, or earlier if anything "exciting" happens in the interim.
