Retirement reception for Bedard, Wolfe April 28th

As you may have heard, Dr. Brian Bedard and Dr. Susan Wolfe are both retiring in May. We will miss them in the English Department! Their contributions to our department and to the University of South Dakota have been significant.
A college retirement reception to honor Dr. Bedard, Dr. Wolfe, and Dr. Richard Fox (Anthropology Dept.) will be held Thursday, April 28th, from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Al Neuharth Media Center (Freedom Forum Conference Room). A program will be held at 2:50 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
Workshop on Publishing Creative Work November 5

Creative writing professors Brian Bedard and Lee Ann Roripaugh will lead a workshop on publishing creative work, scheduled for November 5, at 3:30 p.m. This free workshop will be held in Old Main 106. Anyone interested in publishing creative work is welcome to attend.
Brian Bedard is a writer of short fiction and essays. He is author most recently of a collection of stories called Grieving on the Run (Snake Nation Press). He directs USD’s creative writing program and is editor of South Dakota Review, a literary magazine with national circulation. Lee Ann Roripaugh writes mainly poetry. Her most recent book is On the Cusp of a Dangerous Year (Southern Illinois Press), a collection of poems. She has judged a number of creative writing contests in the past couple of years, and published work in numerous literary journals.
Brian Bedard to deliver Harrington Lecture Sept. 21

Brian Bedard, a professor of English and the editor of The South Dakota Review, has been selected to deliver the Harrington 2010 Lecture at the University of South Dakota. The title of his lecture is "Dreaming Dakota: Image and Story."
The Harrington Lecture is scheduled for Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 7 p.m. in Farber Hall (Old Main). Everyone is welcome to attend this event.

Brian Bedard SDCTE 2008 South Dakota Author of the Year

Professor Brian Bedard has been chosen as South Dakota Author of the Year for 2008 by the South Dakota Council of Teachers of English (SDCTE). SDCTE is a state-wide professional organization of English teachers in K-12 and higher education, and is affiliated with the National Council of Teachers of English. As this year’s honoree, Dr. Bedard has been asked to address next year’s SDCTE conference. Dr. Bedard’s recent book, Grieving on the Run (Snake Nation Press, 2007), prompted his selection. Grieving on the Run, a collection of short stories, also won a Serena McDonald Kennedy Fiction Award and was nominated for a 2007 National Book Award.
