10 Strange Diets!
I have a problem. I am really picky about food. I have a limited diet until i get sick of whatever my favorite food of the month or set of months is. I spent one summer dining almost exclusively on Chef Boyardee Dinosaur spagettios! My mother even bought me a 1qt saucepan for my birthday just so i would have a perfect pot to cook them in. I also eat green beans with ketchup, but that is nothing to my Asian buddies from work. I love most of the food they bring, like pure aloe vera (you can eat it! it comes in cubes and is kinda like a wierd jello.) Some things I cannot stand: boiled half grown chicks in their eggs, and sun dried fish with bones still in them, and fish sauce... wont explain. However, I can relate to these eccentric diners from history: 10 Strange Diets: - The mad victorian artist Richard Dadd (1817-86) lived for several years exclusively on hard boiled eggs and ale. - In order to demonstrate the cultural inferiority of the United States, ex- Pogues lead singer Shane MacGowan once ate a Beach Boys album. - During the Crimean War, British soldiers were supplied with a daily ration of caviar. - The Danish author Theodore Reinking was forced to eat his own words. In 1644 he wrote a book entitled "Dania ad exteros de perfidia Suecorum" which lamented the diminished fortunes of the Danes after their defeat by their neighbors, Swede, in the 30 Years' War. It offended the Swedes so much that he was imprisoned for life. After several years in jail he was given a choice: eat your book or lose your head. He chose the former. - In 1994 fisherman Renato Arganza spent several days at sea clinging to a bouy after his boat capsized off the Philippines. On being rescued he remarked that he had survived by eating his underpants. - Henry Ford I took to eating weed sandwiches every day when he heard that the American scientist George Washington Grover did the same. - During widespread food shortages in Cuba in 1994 the cat population fell by 400,000. - For the last 15 years of his life Howard Hughes lived almost exclusively on ice-cream. He generally stuck to the same flavor until every supplier in the district had run out. - Even at a time in Roman history known for culinary decadence, the Emperor Heliogabalus was renowned for his adventurous diet, dining on such delicacies as headsof parrot, flamingo brains, thrush brains and camel heels. At one feast he astonished his guests by serving up 600 flamingo heads, from which guests were expected to scoop out and eat the brains with golden spoons. - Ernest Hemingway wrote all is works on a diet of peanut butter sandwiches. So eat happy! And just know that whatever eccentric eating habits you have... someone out there beat you.
