Bush Wants $42,000,000,000 More
In a not-so-surprising move, President Bush is asking Congress for another $42,000,000,000 (billion) to further war efforts. Most of that will go to Iraq. What are Democrats to do?
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said that, "In the coming weeks, we will hold it up to the light of day and fight for the change of strategy and redeployment of troops that is long overdue." The rhetoric is nice but the Democrats tried playing hardball with Bush earlier this year to get timetables for redeployment and failed.
Cynically speaking, anything that portrays the Republicans as furthering the war effort will help Democrats as most Americans have abandoned the Iraq War. Unfortunately it doesn't get anything done for our troops who are stuck in a civil war with no hope for victory thanks to Bush's mismanagement of the war.
Here's what Bush had to say: "Parts of this war are complicated, but one part is not -- and that is that America should do what it takes to support the troops and protect our people."
OK Bush, how about this. Support the troops by bringing them home and protect our people by no longer aggravating the people in Iraq that we anger every day with our presence.
