Obama/McCain Words and Other Cool Election Stuff

11:22AM Sep 23, 2008 in category Humor by Xiaoxi Zhang

Just a real quick recap for everyone that might have missed it.

1) Over the summer, the Washington Post did an interesting study. It took a survey of all the words used on Barack Obama and John McCain's websites and made this absolutely awesome graphic for us to peruse.

OBAMA!

The left is the site for Senator Obama, the right is the site for Senator McCain. I think it's little telling about the tones of the two campaigns that the Buzzword of this election cycle has not been "Change" or "policy" or "energy", but "OBAMA".

(interestingly, if you go to the blog server site and click on "obama" or "democrat" as tags, you get.....a bunch of stories from the College Republicans' blog. I'll leave it at that.)

 2. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Steve Novick, the self proclaimed "Left Hook of the Greater Northwest" and the owner of the coolest campaign commercial in the world.

3. In case you haven't noticed, Fivethirtyeight.com (greatest election projection site. EVER), has Obama at 74.3% chance to win with the new polls in Ohio, Nevada and Michigan.

4. Speaking as a huge nerd, this is a really cool shirt.

You're drawing a spurious conclusion. I tag almost every story about the election- regardless of what the post is specifically about- with "presidential election 2008 john mccain barack obama republicans democrats." Plus, I blog more than the Dems do, so it's only logical that this would occur.

That's certainly true Matt, you do a lot more blogging than we do. That said, I find it interesting that most of your stuff does deal with partisan politics while most of our stuff is simply issue education and/or random leftist anger. I think, while it doesn't make you a bad person, it certainly does call into question the quality of dialogue you bring.

Xiao Xi

Of course our blog deals with partisan politics. We are the College REPUBLICANS.

The aims of our respective blogs are different. They are incomparable. You can use all the passive-aggressive phrases you want (like the last sentence of your previous comment), but it won't do much good. I simply let the hit counter do the talking for me.

You should really find out what passive aggressive means. Maybe you can have Tim wikipedia it for you? I hear he's kind of good with that internet contraption.

Personally, I see no constructive purpose to furthering the same drivel that passes for political dialogue that we find on TV, but what have you.

I am glad you get a lot of hits to your blog site. Good job, keep trucking Superstar!

(and for the record, I'm being condescending, not passive aggressive)

Posted by Xiao Xi on September 23, 2008 at 12:29 PM CDT #

I'm amused that you find yourself in the position to be condescending.

Posted by Matt Hittle on September 23, 2008 at 03:55 PM CDT #

Actually, Matt, I do feel that I'm in the position to be condescending because I have never heard or read anything from you that doesn't say to me "This man is an utter tool of the Republican party."

Not even a tool of the conservative movement, because that'd be at least noble and understandable. But man, to be a tool of a party that doesn't even pay you, that's pretty bad. So let's make a pact, I'll stop being condescending when you stop sweating the small stuff, cut it with the indignity and actually use your own words instead of distorting the words and opinions of others, k?

Posted by Xiao Xi on September 23, 2008 at 06:44 PM CDT #

I love the faux indignation. Calling me out for being a "tool" of a political party in a post for the blog of a competing political party. Classic.

Xiao Xi, I couldn't care less about your condescending attitude, though it's a disturbing trend in this particular part of the USD blogosphere. I work for what I believe in, and if Xiao Xi Zhang doesn't like it, he can get lost.

On a related note, someone's got a lot of pent-up anger. Get a punching bag or something.

Posted by Matt Hittle on September 23, 2008 at 11:47 PM CDT #

Matt, as surprising as this might be for you, a person can be the supporter of a political party without marching in line with all their ideas.

As you have said, we have very different aims for our blogs, and I wouldn't criticize your content on your blog, and I expect you to show likewise respect for ours.

But here's the thing dude, our agreement is on a personal level. I cannot wrap my head around the idea that during such a crucial time, you'd rather talk about gaffs and mistakes rather than policy directions. Because of that, you're less than a tool to me.

Posted by Xiao Xi on September 24, 2008 at 03:32 PM CDT #

You're like the rag they use to polish tools to their work. A part of the system that maintains the proper function of tools.

So here's my final thought: either grow a spine and a brain capable of independent thought, or don't come to the Dems blog looking for a fight. Cause if you do, all I'm going to do is tell you what I think of your methods and ideas.

Thanks
XXZ

Oh let the ad hominem attacks flow.

Posted by Matt Hittle on September 24, 2008 at 03:57 PM CDT #

Dude, find out what Ad hominem means. Have carr wiki it for you.

And ad hominem attack would be that you, personally, are a waste of space and air. I never said that. I criticized your actions as that of a man who is a tool-enabler for the republican party.

Don't throw around buzz words because you think it makes you seem relevant. You're doing the English language a disservice.

Posted by Xiao Xi on September 24, 2008 at 07:40 PM CDT #

and stop hiding your actions behind a wall of accusation. When I criticize you for being toolrific, and you proceed to act more toolrific, that's not disproving anything.

Your victim complex is disgusting.
